TRAGEDY STRIKES IN OBITTI  AS OIL BUNKERY  TANKER EXPLOSION CLAIMS OVER 30 LIVES

In a devastating incident in the forest of Obitti, Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Imo State, a suspected oil bunkering tanker explosion leaves more than 30 bodies charred to ashes.

In a grim turn of events on Tuesday, tragedy struck the quiet forest of Obitti in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, as a tanker, believed to be involved in illegal oil bunkering, exploded, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The incident unfolded at the Ndorama pipeline right of way within the Obitti rubber estate, raising questions about the illicit activities in the area. Conflicting accounts from the relatives of the victims only added to the complexity of the situation.

Some eyewitnesses suggested that the explosion occurred amidst an exchange of gunfire between rival groups vying for control over the oil bunkering territory. Others speculated that leaders orchestrating the illegal bunkering business might have planned the attack that led to the devastating explosion.

Amid the chaos, a community leader, requesting anonymity, claimed that the victims had encroached upon the territory controlled by an alleged kingpin, rumored to be a politician deeply involved in the illicit bunkering operations.

A chilling video captured by an eyewitness revealed the sinister operations leading to the disaster. Vandals, armed with a tanker suspected to be used for illegal bunkering, breached the Ndorama pipeline right of way. In their attempt to tap into the pipeline, disaster struck, causing a catastrophic explosion that claimed many lives. The eyewitness described the grim scene, highlighting the burnt remains of some victims and the still-burning wreckage of the tanker.

In response to the incident, the Imo State Police swiftly initiated a high-powered investigation team. Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the launch of the investigation, aimed at uncovering the immediate cause of the explosion and apprehending those responsible for this tragic event. As the community grapples with the aftermath, questions linger about the illicit activities that led to such a catastrophic loss of life.
