In his persistent
bid to eradicate all forms of drug abuse from his community and by extension,
the South East, Nigeria, Traditional ruler of Isi Ihitte Owerri in Orlu LGA, HRH
Eze Damian Emeka Obianigwe, in collaboration with a civil society organization
- Advocates for Global Peace Forum International, AGPFI, Nigeria chapter, has
held a press conference in Owerri.
The press
conference is in preparation for a week-long activity lined up by the
organization, in partnership with Eze Damian Obianigwe.
Reading the
brief, AGPFI’s Coordinator, Ms Ngozi Maureen Ani informed that, the
organization is an international civil society committed to the promotion of
universal human rights, peace building, societal development, humanitarian
services and active contributors to the advancement of United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals in Nigeria.
She further
informed that, they are a network of individuals and organizations drawn together
from all works of life, religions, races and cultures, to promote freedom,
harmony and prosperity amongst all races and nations, headquartered in Arizona,
United States of America, USA.
Ms. Ani decried
the high level of substance abuse among youths and underaged, which is on the
increase and made worst by its availability by those who sell these substances.
Hailing Eze
Obianigwe who doubles as the patron and ambassador of AGPFI, whose initiative
birthed, “Liberate African Youth from Drugs”, an awareness, counselling and
rehabilitation of youths suffering complications from negative effects of drugs
project, Ms Ani informed that the traditional ruler, through his partnership
with the organization, has conducted free medical support to rural communities,
widows’ empowerment, skills acquisition to widows and youths and drug eradication
campaigns.
The Orlu LGA
born monarch, who was represented at the event by the AGPFI's Consultant, Dr.
Fortune Obikwere, pointed out that in a bid to save the society from further
damage emanating from drug abuse and misuse, that AGPFI in conjunction with
NDLEA would be presenting what he described as "Drug Abuse Intervention
Course for Security and Law Enforcement Agencies and School based Drug Abuse
Prevention Course for Teachers and Administrators of Public Secondary Schools
in Imo State.
Highlights of
this week event will be Drug Abuse Intervention Course for Security and Law Enforcements
Agents and a School Based Drug Abuse Prevention Course for Teachers and
Administrators of Public Schools in Imo state, on November 22 and 23 respectively.
