How Police Killed One In Imo, As Irate Youths Set Station Ablaze


 

Pandemonium struck Tuesday morning at Ishinweke town, in Ihitte Uboma LGA of Imo state, as angry youths burnt down the Area Divisional police headquarter in the community.

 

This is following an alleged killing of a member of the community, by a police officer. This seem to have infuriated youths in the community, who moved to Ihitte Uboma and set the division ablaze in retaliation.


It was also gathered that two other cops sustained injuries in the incident.

 

When contacted, a police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident.

 

According to him, the policemen were said to have taken a suspect to her house for investigation, on reaching there, her relative raised alarm which attracted youths in the area who came in their numbers.

 

The youths were said to have attacked the officers and in the confusing moment, while trying to scare away rampaging youths, shot in the “air”, which hit a youth. He was later confirmed dead in a hospital.


Ikeokwu said more policemen had been deployed to the station, adding that the state Commissioner of police, Nasiru Muhammed, had ordered investigation into the incident.
